The Art of Racing in the Rain

It makes such a good blog post heading doesn't it?

I wish it were original with me. But nope. It's the title of one of the best books I've picked up recently. By Garth Stein.

I try to avert my gaze from the book section in Costco and Target, I really do! I have more books waiting to be read than I'll EVER have vacations, so I don't need to discover any more new ones!
But in this case I'm glad I did.

And for someone who isn't really all that terribly fond of animals and who is even quite scornful of anthropomorphism, (with the single exception of Get Fuzzy) this is a
REALLY
GREAT
STORY!!!

It covers an 11 year span of Denny's life, while he gets a puppy, meets a girl, marries girl, has baby girl with girl, adult girl gets sick, sad things happen for a while until good stuff can start happening again and it's all told from the perspective of Enzo, Denny's dog. He's a good dog. Gooooood doggie. "Es he is......! A smart, and a loyal, and an obedient, and a dignified dog. 'Es 'e is!!!

Oh. Excuse me.

If you have and love a dog, you will love this book. If you don't have a dog, you will want to get one. And you will also begin to understand why some people can have deeper relationships with their animals than with some of the humans in their lives. Probably you will also need some kleenex, it's that good.

Lots to tell and show!!

First up though, BONNIE, you're the winner of my Follow Me challenge!

(Well of course, you're ALL WINNERS in my book!)

I have something I'ma stick in the mail for you just as soon as you pm me your mailing addy!

First for the telling.

I'm just gonna out and SAY it!

I got a place on the design team for an online scrapbooking challenge site!!!!!!!

Go there and check it out! ScrapFit!!!!

I'm stupidly excited about this! I know it's going to be a LOT of fun! It starts Aug 1 and I'll be keeping y'all up-to-speed on the challenges and sponsors and stuff, right here.

Now for the showing. We just finished up the week long, online crop at Love is in the Details.

Here are the layouts I got done for a few of the challenges...

This one for a challenge to use a Sassy Lil Sketches sketch, at least 3 pieces of patterned paper, no cardstock, deco-edged paper and mini alphas.

You can see I'm going back into the archives for pics - these, from the point-&-shoot-film era!

These next two are cards made using this sketch.

I don't think you know this dude.

I don't even think I know him.

Well, that's my story anyways.

The challenge was to scrap an April Fool.

Or maybe it was to use a silly photo.

Something like that.

Awwww! Sweetie kids!!!

The challenge here was to use this sketch and include clouds on the layout. Not hard to do when you love clouds.

Love 'em better from the ground than from the airplane though, I have to say.
Next up: a post about a book I just finished reading which I LOVED. So if you haven't bought your summer beach read yet, hold off...you'll need the name of this one!

Another couple layouts for you....

And they actually happen to be sort of related....

but first I want to say THANK YOU to all you nice people who have come out of the woodwork and clicked on the "follow me" button! You all have my devoted devotion most devotedly.

And if you still want to join our parade, you have till Sunday June 20th and I'll draw a name from y'alls and win ya's a prize. D'ya like Starbucks?
Did this first one for Jenn Olson's sketch challenge at Studio Calico. It's about the scary car my daughter drove until she got her new one. It was "donated" to her by her bf's dad and two teenage boys had learned to drive, as well as begin their stunt careers in it.

You think I'm kidding.

By the time she got it, nothing worse could be inflicted upon it so she drove this car like she had nothing left to lose.

What I really wish I had are pictures from the first time she took her brothers for a ride in it and it backfired!

Which it did with satisfying frequency.

Satisfying if you are wanting to drive your passengers MAD!!!

The next layout is of her new car. I think the pictures say it all. I used this sketch from Pencil Lines for the inspo.
And the colors even sort of match. So they can go side by side in the album. If they ever get there.

Fun stuff happening at Love is in the Details

This is the weekend of the big Miami Cruise Crop sponsored by Love is in the Details! Sounds like a fun old time huh?! No matter that it's Miami, Manitoba, a solidly land locked town in the rural countryside! No matter at all! Fun is being had there at this very moment!!!! Guaranteed!

However, I am not there; I am here. In the solidly landlocked State of Arizona. But fun can still be had at Love is in the Details where we're hosting a "Missed the Boat" online crop! Challenges, prizes, chatter, munchies (that part variesbyhousehold,nooneunder18mayapply. Wait, is that right?) But head on over and check it out....there's fun for the scrapper and for the NONscrapper too! And great prizes!

Here's my layout challenge - the Christmas Fruitcake Challenge (for which the randomly drawn prize is a $20 gc at the Liitd Store). Make a layout using traditional holiday colors but for a non traditional layout. And for a twist? Incorporate fruit. Somewhere. Here's a sample of what I mean.
THEN... there's the compound word game I've posted. Can you figure out what compound words these pictures represent?
For more like this check here.

And finally, I'm putting one more challenge out there! Become a follower (even though your mama told you not to) of this blog and I'll pick a name to win a little sumpin from me! Gonna make that deadline Sunday June 20 at midnight! This is for anyone who ventures over here - scrapper, non-scrapper alike. And leave a comment so I know who's lurking 'round these parts! Please? But only if you want to. Cuz I'm not bossy like that. Unless you're my sister.

Scrapped some more....

Well, actually, made some cards....

I've been all hepped up again over stamps and stamping since taking a Copic class.

It's the newest craze to drive the leisure industry.

So much so, that Mr Copic can't keep all the stores stocked that want his markers!

S'true! And no wonder! You haven't had this much fun since 1st grade!!
Paper from the Figgy Pudding line, ribbon from the Urban Couture line. Digi stamp from Pollycraft.
And then for good measure, I used up some more stash and made a 2nd card using the same sketch from this weeks BasicGrey Challenge. No stamp this time, just a rub on sentiment. Ribbon is all from the Basic Black line.

I scrapped!!

It's been 2 months!

Found this vintage photo-treasure in an old magnetic album.

I wonder why they called those adhesive page albums magnetic....

but anyway!

It's of my Grandma, knitting slippers.

If we were Ukranian we'd have called them kopchies.

At the lake, under the trees while everyone frolicked happily on the beach in front of her.

No, that's not where we'd call slipper kopchies.

That's where this photo was taken.
The journaling says: This is what I remember about my Grandma. After a life of turmoil, she loved quietness. A ball of yarn, some knitting needles or a crochet hook and a shady spot under the trees where she could survey her realm... This is all it took to bring her happiness.

I kind of get that actually.

Used this sketch from Sassy Lil Sketches:

And this color inspiration from Color Combos Galore:

I got a belated birthday present

from my sister-in-law. This completely unpredictable and freakishly spectacular loonie bank!!!

And here, they're giving away Nobel Peace Prizes to people who create boring things like medicines when designers, purchasers and gifters of such splendidly weird tchotchkes are going entirely unrecognized. It's a shame, it really is!
