Something Old, something new...

Something borrowed, something blue!

That's our challenge for you this week at Polka Doodles!

Here's the card I made for the challenge and I quite like how it came together!

I used butterfly stamps from the  Polka Doodles Flutter Fairyfly set and I stamped them on vellum and heat embossed.  I adhered the vellum behind the scalloped window opening and layered blue dot paper (Pretty Tuff cd) on the inside of the card.  Then I layered swiss dot tulle over the whole front of the card, and adorned it with ribbon and the sentiment tag which is printed on Pretty Tuff paper.  The little black tag charm is something (very) old, the sentiment digi is new, the white emboss on vellum is a technique I borrowed (lifted) from a sample I saw at CHA this year, and the paper is blue!

Grade 4

Wasn't he ever so so cute?  Little stinker!  He's still cute, but not in that same silly impish way!
The Scrappin' Patch sent me this paper from the Class of '87 Collection from Kaisercraft and I loved using it for this sketch challenge that's freshly posted at Challenge Me Happy!!

I sewed around the edges of each paper block as well as the strip along the bottom and then I bent up the edges for some visual definition.  LOVE the bright colors and graphics of this line!
Make sure you stop by the CMH blog and see what the rest of the design team came up with!  Some awesome inspiration, I gotta say!!

My beautiful mom-in-law

We have a fresh challenge up for you at Scrap Your Crap today!  This time we want you to use up some chipboard!  You can keep it naked or doll it up like I did!
I found an old piece of Fancy Pants diamond shaped chipboard and started by painting it with Adirondack dabbers, then stamping the surface with a Penny Black music stamp, shading the edges with Colorbox inks and finally spraying the surface with Goosebumps!
This photo was taken over 30 years ago when my mother in law was younger than I am now.  But just slightly.  And she looked amazing!!  I thought so then and I think so now!

Is it too late to begin a skin care regime with the hopes of looking this great as I age too??

Did I show you these?

I don't think so....time to do that.

These were created for Love is in the Details using the My Mind's Eye Happy Day, and Lost and Found lines.

The bicycle stamp on this layout and the "have a great day" sentiment and arrow punch out, are from the Hero Arts/Sizzix Stamp and Framelets.

Don't you just love this bright and cheerful My Mind's Eye product??

I love the photos of our cottage in Canada on this layout even more now, because they represent something that no longer exists!!  Two weeks ago Mr B and littlest B (and some other guys) tore the place down to the ground and this week, the NEW and IMPROVED Granite Lake cottage is being framed!!!  After 10 years of talking about it and planning it, I can't believe it's finally happening!  I'd show you some pics of that, but it deserves a whole post of its own!  You might think I should be feeling a whole lot more nostalgic about the old cottage, but I'm quite happy to be quit of the mushrooms that grow INSIDE when it rains (you THINK I'm kidding) and the mice that over run the place in our absence!  The only thing that will be the same when we finish building is the view from the windows.
New cottage photos (and quite possibly, layouts!) coming soon!
Thanks for stopping by, check back again soon!

What's new?

So here's what's new.  This is a layout I did for my design team challenge over at Love is in the Details!  This month it's all about the large banners (plus a mini one on a pin) and butcher twine, two things we're seeing a lot of on layouts everywhere!!
The layout uses a photo I have been dying to scrap, of the amazingly awesome crop of Roma tomatoes we grew back in 2007.  I can't say what the magic was; some weird trifecta of sun, rain and karmic kindness that only comes around every 10 years, maybe?

Whatever.  It doesn't stop me from trying again every year.

And next up is the current challenge freshly posted at All About Me!  Dreams is the layout prompt.  Your own, or yours for someone else.  Make sure to head over and check out the rest of the DT inspiration and then link up your own creation!

Here's the layout I did for this challenge.
Is this ever true!
Thanks for taking the time to stop by!

This Beautiful Family...

consists of my bro-in-law, his wife and their spectacularly precocious son, Roman!  Each of them is supremely successful in their fields and they've totally taken the pressure off the rest of us to accomplish anything significant in our lives!!  We just bask in their limelight, lol.

I did this layout for the current black, white and red color challenge at Challenge Me Happy using supplies provided by The Scrappin' Patch!  Nice folks, them!  Be sure and check out what the rest of the design team did at the Challenge Me Happy blog!
