Polka Doodles

I'm still away, traveling hither and yon from Manitoba to Alberta, visiting family and friends, but meanwhile back at the ranch challenges are being posted!  Here is this weeks challenge from Polka Doodles!
Fairies, Fantasy and glitter!

And while glitter is not on my list of favorite things, I do own some, so I did pull it out and use it.  To rather a festively fantastical effect, no?

The paper and image are both from the yummy Sugar Plum Daisy cd.  I painted Stickles on the wings and then added some Martha Stewart glitter as well.  To complete the card I added a paper doily and made up a little bouquet of miscellaneous paper flowers and ribbon I had in my stash!  Check out the rest of the DT creations and be inspired to play along with us this week!!  Prizes are involved...!

Happy Hoopla...

How are you doing with the Challenge Me Happy Birthday Hoopla challenges?  Did you check out the prizes being given away!?  A Big Shot machine and two Tim Holtz dies from The Scrappin' Patch!?  That would sure get me pulling out my adhesives and scissors!!  And that's not even to mention the individual prizes being given by each of the DT!

I thought I'd show you the layouts I did for a few of the challenges.  I haven't yet had time to do them all, but here's what I've got so far.

Lisa is proposing using the advertisement below as a jumping off point to inspire a layout.

Here's the layout I did for it.  It's a 12"x18" layout.  I like to do those once in a while when I use lots of photos and don't want to lose the design element amongst them.

And here is the advert.

Hannah is challenging us to use this recipe:
1 stamp
2 staples
3 cardstock
4 words in the title
5 patterned papers (Shh, I can't count so I have a couple more than I should.  The design demanded it, what could I do??)
6 stickers.
Plus journaling, ink, mist, paint, any number and size of photos.

And this is what came from that.

Annelie, our proud and fearless leader, is challenging us to use this photo to inspire a layout.  Love that brick wall, right?

I used the layers on the shelf as well as the word placement to inspire this:

And of course, there is my birthday challenge.  Just do any kind of a birthday page.  Take it from there!

As soon as I returned from gadding about yet again (this time to my Home and Native Land...Canada) I will take and post a photo of what I am offering for a RAK for doing my challenge!  I promise to make it worth your while!!  It MAY even include some Copics!!  Be sure to post your layouts for each of the challenges at the Challenge Me Happy blog, rather than on each of our individual blogs!

Two new challenges

We have a new challenge for you at Scrap Your Crap's today and we want to inspire you to emboss!  You could dry emboss (or deboss) with your poor neglected embossing machine and folders, or wet emboss with stamps, ink and heat set powder!  Your choice.

Here's the layout I made for this challenge.  I exacto-ed (pretty sure that's a word) a chevron design out of a piece of patterned paper that had that design and used it for a stencil with clear Versamark.  After I heat embossed the design with clear emboss powder, I brushed three shades of Mr Huey over top to let the embossed design resist the ink and let the white show through.  Making an appearance again is more of that dotted tulle.  LOVE that stuff!!

The photo is of me when I was, like, not yet 2.  I think we had just finished grocery shopping.  Either that or my mom was teaching me the finer points of being a bag lady.  Either way, I must have been a very good girl.  Enough to merit a new book about Peter Rabbit!  Loved books then.  Love them even more today.
So take a hop on over to the SYC blog to see more of what the rest of the design team came up with! I tell you, the designs from this challenge blew me away!!

And that's not all! There's a fresh challenge for you up at the Polka Doodles blog today as well!  This week it's about making a card with a summer scene on it....tell me, what could feel better than that??

Here's the card I made using images from the Sundae of Seasons (Summer) cd.  I typed a "punny" sentiment on my vintage typewriter, and glued it on one of the sentiment circles also on that cd.

Be sure to head on over to the PDblog and see what everyone else has done, and then for a chance to win a prize, post your own card for this theme!

Happy Hoopla Birthday Challenge Me Happy!!

Welcome to the Challenge Me Happy One Year Anniversary HOOPLA!!!

It’s hard to believe, but Challenge Me Happy has been dishing out fortnightly challenges for a year today. This is something to CELEBRATE of course, and we hope you want to celebrate with us!!

You will have SEVEN challenges to complete, in FOUR weeks. You can participate in however many challenges you want, and there are prizes to win in EACH challenge.

Aaaaand – something we are VERY excited about – if you upload a project to EACH of the seven challenges, you will be in the DRAW to win a BIG SHOT machine + two Tim Holtz dies. This has been generously sponsored by Adrienne at Scrappin’ Patch ( – she is one amazing lady!

So – how does it work?

Each Challenge Me Happy designer is presenting their challenge in detail on their blog (see list below). You will also find all links on the Challenge Me Happy blog – and the inspiration project to go with it. Each designer is offering a prize for their challenge – the winner will be chosen by vote. Each designer will ALSO draw a RAK amongst the uploaded projects.
Upload ALL your projects to the “inlinkz” page at the bottom of the hoopla post on the Challenge Me Happy blog. Please name your project with YOUR name AND the name of the designer who’s challenge you have interpreted.
Here is the list to all of the design team blogs:
3.     Michelle -
6.     Hannah -
7.     Annelie –

One more thing before I reveal MY challenge. If you have ANY questions, please email OR ask us on our Facebook page (which you have liked already – right?).

OK, so here is MY CHALLENGE:  Since we're celebrating a birthday, I want you to make a birthday layout!  I've done a two pager and you can too, but you don't have to.

Marie has done this layout for my challenge as well!

Pinkness and polka dots...

Are two things I love...and don't play with as often as I'd like! There was plenty of both though, in the recent box of giddiness that Lori sent me from Love is in the Details and here are a couple of things I made with them!

The first is a card and envelope. The card incorporates items (all available at LiitD) from the Pink Paislee London Market line, twine from My Mind's Eye and the little wood banners from Prima. Lori has the pretty polka dot bags (and stripey ones too) available as well.

Then I made this layout using more pastel pretties from the Dear Lizzy line. The wood dress form is Kaisercraft and the music collage paper is again PP London Market.

The photo is of my sister and I all dressed up in our grown-up friend's fabulously (to us!) stylish clothes.
Circa 1971.
I'm not sure I've ever felt quite as glamorous since.

Love these ready-to-go embellishments from Dear Lizzy! What a gorgeously simple way they could dress up a gift box or bag?!

I love traveling SO much more after I'm back I alone in that??  It's good while I'm there, don't get me wrong, but in the comfort of my own home, my own bed, familiar kitchen, surroundings, I look at the pictures and I take out the memories and run them through my fingers like shiny beads and it all feels even better than it was!!

If you'd like to run my memories through your fingers, you just go right ahead!
