Autumn Leaves

Are something that are in short supply here in the desert...so when we need some, we have to make them!  And lemme tell ya, there's nothing as convincing as the Tim Holtz glassine paper, crumpled and run through the Big Kick with the Leaves die!

I also rubbed some gold and copper Perfect Pearls powder to give them some sheen.

I used a few on this layout of my kids from back in the day, playing in the leaves....sigh....

I used a few on a card or two....
And then I made a bunch for my Thanksgiving table decor!!  Best thing is, I can use them again next year!!

Never Too Old....

These photos were the source of the title -proving once again that you're never too old to have fun at the fair!!  We went for the deep fried chocolate covered cheese curds...(f'real!) but chickened out in the end and went with the usual turkey legs and funnel cakes!!  We did our favorite rides, the swing chair, the ferris wheel but the big draw for Mr B was to win us girls some stuffed toys!!  Makes him feel all virile and cool, y'know!  All the girls went home with something; mine was a CUTE Hello Kitty!!

That photo grid?  Postal Pics.  It's an app you can load onto your phone and upload your phone photos or instagram photos, or whatever, pick the kind of paper (aluminum is a choice) and a few days later they show up in your mailbox.  What a concept!!

And the washi stars?  WeR Memory Keepers new Washi adhesive sheets.  You can run them through your die cut machine, or Cricut or Silhouette or use your punches.  SO cool!!  And the wood grain title bit is MacTac shelf paper.  Still haven't got tired of that stuff!
The chipboard stars are Pink Paislee's Artisan Chipboard that you can mist, paint or color, as is the red word "fun"!  Also cool!

So while I was playing with the Washi sheets, I decided to make some cards.  I used a Martha Stewart punch for the butterflies.

Turns out, you can even heat emboss on Washi adhesive sheets!

Thanks for stopping by!  Leave a comment and say hello if you like!!

So Wonderful....

There's a new challenge up at Challenge Me Happy today.  It's a scrap lift of Annelie's layout here:

To love and be loved.  This photo is pretty old.  That was me with the bangs and cowlick when I was a pipsqueak.  And my grandma.  Who lived down the block, but spent most of the day with us at our house, reading books to us, cooking us chicken soup, crocheting afghans, shelling peas, darning socks, whatever needed done.  I miss her.
I liked the photo layering that Annelie used, as well as the twine arranged all loopy like that so I layered my photo as well, and mimicked the twine with the wire framing the photo.
The sequins and die cuts are all from the Studio Calico Sock Hop kit from November, and that delicious title is courtesy of my FUN grown-up toy, the Silhouette!!
You'll want to join in on our challenge for a chance to be a guest designer for the next challenge!!  Link us up at CMH and good luck!!

Halfway to an MD...

We have a new sketch challenge for you at Challenge Me Happy, and it's what I used for this page.

This is my future DIL...she's worked so hard to get this far (half way to her dream of being a physician) and while she still has a ways to go, it feels like something of a milestone marker now that she's this close to graduating with her first degree and sending off and getting responses for Med School.  I love this photo of her.  It was taken at their recent engagement photo shoot, and it's the one she's using for her Med School applications.  I wanted to let the photo shine from the page like she does, so kept the rest of the layout fairly clean.  Well, as much as I'm capable of....

We'd love to have you join us!  Make a layout based on the sketch, link it up with Mr Linky and you may win some goodies for your efforts!!

Tis the Season...

for card making it seems!  Here's a quick and hasty post to show you some of the cards I've made recently!

I did these two for Love is in the Details...using some new Texture Fades by Tim Holtz for Sizzix.

The first one I did by inking up the top (or recessed) surface of the embossing folder and then running it through the BigKick.
Then for this one, I ran the paper through with the embossing folder, and used a foam tool to add some color to the raised surface afterwards.  The berries were made with sparkly red Stickles!

The following cards have all been made for Polka Doodles, for various challenges over there!

This card uses images from the Polka Doodles, Here Comes Christmas cd.  This is our current challenge at Polka Doodles this week, to make a Christmas party invitation card, and you can enter your card until Sunday, Nov 18.  Wouldn't this make a cute invitation to a cookie exchange!?

A couple of weeks ago our challenge was to print on kraft or other card stock (not white or cream).  I used the Gingerbread Twist Picknix and the Here Comes Christmas cd for the digi image and the cut file which I cut on my Silhouette Cameo.  Great fun, that!!
And this card, I printed the digi images (from the Sundae of Seasons cd) onto cold-press water color paper and then added the color wash around the edges.

Thanks for stopping by today!!  See you again, soon!

Happy Spooks and Ghouls Day!

We have an interesting tradition here in AZ for handing out candy on Halloween....because the temps are not frigid, everyone sets themselves up on their driveways with candy bowls, little fire pits, bevvies and snacks, and makes a regular party of handing out candy to the little spooks!  It's really kind of fun!  Our choice of snacks and drinks are all apple related, thanks to my future DIL.  Apple crisp and hot apple cider!  And a box of Milk Duds or seven.
We have a few special friends who come by before heading home and I wanted to have special treat bags set aside for them!  And once I got making them, well I thought my kids...and their friends all needed one too!  As Son#2 commented.... "anything worth doing....!"

The tree and birds stamps are vintage Tim Holtz and the die cuts are all made from cut files I got at Silhouette for 75¢ each!

As well, I have a layout to show you...
We revealed this color challenge yesterday at Challenge Me Happy, and you can join us in the fun and possible even win yourself a whole lotta butcher twine in a rainbow of colors!!

Here's what I did:

Once again, the Silhouette got a workout!

That's all for today, but check back soon for pics from our recent (but pre-Sandy) trip to NYC!

Card Crazy

So between a couple of design team assignments and World Card Making day last week, I have a few cards to show you!  I've been having fun playing on that size of canvas lately!!

First up. This Halloween challenge went up at Polka Doodles last week.  I had SOME fun with my limited photoshopping skills to create these images.
And then I machine stitched the cobweb cuz I need to get a life like that.

Printing on vellum turns out to be a cinch!  I adhered it in a pop-up banner fashion.

These next ones are cards I made on World Card Making day.  Had good intentions to do more, but whatever, I'm three cards richer than I was before!

This one was done for a sketch challenge at Studio Calico.

This card answers a challenge to use scraps.  The 2 stitched papers were test runs for tension adjustments on my sewing machine.

And this card was made in 15 mins or less.  Easy enough to do when you have a basket of layered bits and bobs all made up waiting to be used, right, which is what the jar tag was.

Thanks for stopping by.  I'm heading off to the Big Apple this weekend for a girls trip with my daughter!  I'm sure there'll be a couple of pictures to show you when I get back, so stop by again soon!!

Challenge Me Happy

We have a new challenge posted for you at the CMH blog and it's a fun one.  We want you to take inspiration from this photo of paper lanterns.

Here's the layout I made for the challenge.  I'm using mostly the October Roller Rink Studio Calico kit with a few bits added.

And yes, I had to play with my Cameo Silhouette again!  That thing makes cute like nobody's business!!

We hope this will inspire you to do a layout based exclusively on this challenge, and there's a prize in it for you!  A Nikki Sivils paper pack!  Go to Challenge Me Happy to see what the rest of the DT did, and to get the deets and then upload your layout.

Check back tomorrow for the card craze I was on last week!!
